Kurapika's Chain Jail
The crimson chains of vengeance that steal aphantom's power or bind their soul.
Chain Jail is a specialized Nen ability created by Kurapika, the sole survivor of the Kurta Clan and a specialist Hunter. It functions as a set of chains that can only be used against Phantom Troupe members, serving as his ultimate tool for revenge and justice. Unlike his other chains, which are versatile combat tools, Chain Jail is designed specifically to steal an opponent's Nen abilities or bind them so tightly they cannot access their aura at all.

Lore & Background
The existence of Chain Jail is a secret known only to Kurapika and those who have faced him in battle. It represents the ultimate paradox of his character: a man bound by rules who breaks them only when facing his specific nemesis. The ability's power lies not just in its physical restraint but in its metaphysical capacity to strip an opponent of their Nen, leaving them vulnerable and powerless. This makes it the most feared weapon in Kurapika's arsenal, capable of turning even the strongest Troupe members into ordinary humans.
In Their Own Story
The air in the warehouse grew heavy with the scent of ozone and old blood. Kurapika stood motionless, his eyes glowing a terrifying crimson as he locked onto Feitan. The chains materialized from thin air, not as metal, but as extensions of his own will, shimmering with a dark, hypnotic light. "You have no place here," he whispered, the chains snapping forward with impossible speed. They wrapped around the assassin's limbs, tightening until the very aura that sustained them began to flicker and die.
Reader's Guide
Chain Jail is activated exclusively against members of the Phantom Troupe; attempting to use it on anyone else results in immediate self-damage or failure. When successfully bound, the chains can either restrict the target's movement completely or steal their Nen ability entirely. If Kurapika chooses to steal an ability, he gains full control over that specific power for as long as the chain remains attached. This allows him to use the stolen technique against his opponent or store it for later use. However, this theft is temporary and tied directly to the physical connection of the chain. Alternatively, Kurapika can choose to bind the target's Nen without stealing it. In this state, the victim cannot emit, reinforce, or manipulate their aura in any way, effectively neutralizing their combat capabilities while leaving them conscious. The chains are incredibly durable and difficult to break once locked onto a Troupe member.
